I was left in awe after attending an Adam Grant virtual event via the Dallas Museum of Art. Grant conversed with Katie Couric on his new book Think Again. At one point Couric admitted that she felt strongly about some charged issues and Grant attempted to use the sensitive topics to simulate some skills on how to handle emotionally charged situations. Couric declined the offer but it was definitely entertaining to see that scene unfold. A bit more about the event:
"Organizational psychologist Adam Grant has been Wharton’s top-rated professor for seven years and is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Originals and Give and Take, as well as the co-author of Option B with Sheryl Sandberg. His new book Think Again: The Power of Knowing What You Don’t Know examines the critical art of rethinking: learning to question your opinions and open other people’s minds to position you for excellence at work and wisdom in life.
Intelligence is usually seen as the ability to think and learn, but Grant posits that in a rapidly changing world, the ability to rethink and unlearn might be even more significant. Grant makes it one of his guiding principles to argue like he’s right but listen like he’s wrong.
Using compelling evidence, Grant investigates how we can embrace the joy of being wrong and bring nuance to charged conversations. Learn how an international debate champion wins arguments, how a Black musician persuades white supremacists to abandon hate, and how Grant himself has coaxed Yankees fans to root for the Red Sox."
"We need to spend as much time rethinking as we do thinking. Why do we refresh our wardrobes every year, renovate our kitchens every decade, but never update our beliefs and our views?" Adam Grant just released "Think Again: The Power of Knowing What You Don't Know" and it is very relevant with today's environment.
Constant learning and growth is a core value at New Green Dill, so it is only natural to recommend Think Again without even finishing the complete book. From the start, one of his lines really resonated with me, so I decided to play it up a bit with the image below. I hope you enjoy it.
